Greene County authorizes application for state demolition and site‑revitalization funds

Greene County commissioners on Nov. 13 voted to authorize submission of a state Building Demolition and Site Revitalization application and to empower the county administrator to sign related documents.
Staff told the board the state program has an initial set‑aside of $21,500,000 for each fiscal year and that program guidance generally breaks down to about $230,000 per county if each county participates; staff said Greene County would apply for funds to address blighted structures, including recent demolition work connected to the sheriff’s office and jail property transitions.
"As you're well aware, we've taken full advantage of these programs in the last several years to tear down some blight all over the county," a presenter said, noting the county’s prior use of similar programs. The board approved the authorization unanimously and directed the county administrator to execute application documents.
If successful, the county could receive more than the baseline allocation if other counties do not fully utilize their set‑asides, staff said. The next step is for staff to finalize the application and submit it to the Department of Development for consideration.
