Pasco Pathways: how Pasco County’s school-choice program works and key dates for families

Pasco County’s Pasco Pathways program is the district’s central effort to advertise and guide families through school-choice options, a district representative said during a sponsored episode of the podcast Communicating the Vision.
“Our goal through Pasco Pathways is really to ensure that families know every option that’s available in our county and that they’re informed to make the best decision for their family,” Samantha Del Veil said. She described Pasco Pathways as a mix of outreach, an online catalog and in-person expo events designed to help parents compare neighborhood-zone programs and choice schools.
Why it matters: Pasco Pathways centralizes information about magnet programs, career academies, Advanced Placement (AP), Cambridge and International Baccalaureate (IB) offerings, dual-enrollment opportunities and k–8 options. Del Veil said elementary offerings include STEAM, gifted education, Cambridge and IB, while high schools provide pathways that can yield college credit and industry certifications.
District outcomes cited: Del Veil said Pasco County students earned more than 65,000 college credits last year and earned over 2,500 industry certifications. She also said some advanced-diploma pathways and programs can position students to qualify for full Bright Futures scholarships without additional testing requirements.
How to apply: The district runs three application windows to accommodate demand and remaining capacity. The main window lists every school and program and runs Jan. 7–Jan. 20; April and June windows list only programs with seats still available. Families may submit up to three choices on an application; the district uses a lottery to allocate seats and will notify families on March 2.
After notification: Accepted families receive enrollment and scheduling instructions from the admitting school; waitlisted families may be offered seats as the district reviews capacity in spring, summer and during the school year. Del Veil urged families to monitor the district’s parent/student portal and any email or phone reminders and to accept offers within the required window so placement is secured.
