Middleton Landmarks Committee updates designation form to match newly passed ordinance

Speaker 1, a committee member, told colleagues the designation form has been updated to reflect language the Common Council approved the previous night and that the PDF will include clickable links to the cited preservation and rehabilitation standards.

The change, Speaker 1 said, appears on the form's second page and integrates the ordinance’s standards for preservation, rehabilitation, restoration and reconstruction so applicants will see the council-adopted language. Committee members discussed where the updated form would be posted; Speaker 1 confirmed it will appear on the city website under the Landmarks Committee page and directly beneath the existing designation form.

Committee members focused on improving the application workflow. Speaker 3 requested that the form include a clear "submitted by" field, contact information (phone and email) and a date stamp so the committee can track timelines. Speakers agreed non-owners (for example, contractors) may submit on behalf of an owner but only with explicit owner approval; the form will include fields to capture both the submitter’s and owner’s contact details.

Speaker 1 said the committee will make the requested edits and circulate the consolidated quotes and revised form to committee members for review before bringing it back for a formal vote at the next meeting. No formal vote on the form occurred during this session.
