The Kamala ISD Board of Trustees approved a purchase for districtwide stadium wireless networks at its Oct. 23 meeting.
Scott Monroe presented the bid and said Bond 2023 allocated $1.5 million for stadium connectivity. After competitive solicitation, the recommended proposal came in under budget at roughly $1,249,703.83 to provide robust coverage across all five stadium sites. Monroe told trustees the system is intended to support safety and security needs—enabling SROs to access video systems during incidents—and to allow athletic and fan uses. "A lot of it was tied to safety and security so that SROs could have access to tap into our video systems for things across the stadium," he said.
Trustees questioned whether full-site coverage was necessary and whether temporary cellular solutions could be used for occasional events; staff said true athletic and safety uses require hardwired fiber and mounted access points and that temporary cellular approaches lack sufficient, reliable bandwidth. The presentation noted equipment life of 5–10+ years and that outdoor Wi‑Fi installations are costly.
Ms. Shewert moved to approve the purchase of safety and security technology systems and associated products and services as presented; Trustee Tim Hennessy seconded. The board voted 6–0 in favor.
The approved action funds installation and ongoing integration with district security camera systems; staff indicated the plan ties into other safety and security upgrades funded by bond packages.
