Superintendent reports on stalled MOU, pre-K opportunities and facilities progress

Superintendent Mister Anderson updated trustees on a range of district matters, including partnerships, construction and student services.

Anderson told the board that an MOU with KnowledgeWorks is effectively void because that organization lacks funding to continue its work: "that agreement has been void essentially because they don't have the money to carry forward anymore," he said. He added that related work at the state level will continue under other partners.

The superintendent reported discussions with the United Way of Northern Nevada and the Sierras about using state funds to add pre-K seats; he cautioned that any expansion depends on space and a qualified pre-K teacher. Anderson also described outreach to two companies considering local facilities (named in the discussion as Amazon and Ultra Tanks) that could affect future enrollment and staffing needs.

Facilities staff reported progress on multiple projects: campus safety systems (cameras/TCUs) nearing completion at Flagview, YD project structural work, food science building finishing punch-list items, Old Central roof warranty work, and playground equipment installations aided by Nevada Gold Mines and donated labor. Anderson noted the district did not secure another Cox grant round, so funding plans will shift.

Board members and administrators also discussed the district's concussion baseline testing vendor withdrawing service; Anderson said staff are actively seeking alternatives to maintain required baseline testing for student-athletes.

No formal action was taken on these items; trustees asked staff to continue working and to return with specifics when available.
