Harlingen announces boil-water advisory rescinded after negative tests

Harlingen city leaders said Monday evening that a precautionary boil-water advisory issued earlier in the day will be rescinded after water-sample testing came back negative. Mayor Norma Sepulveda told the commission and attendees the Harlingen Water Works completed testing across the city and that residents no longer need to follow the temporary advisory.
The mayor said city staff had been in constant communication with Harlingen Water Works during the investigation and thanked residents for their patience. "We did take a precautionary measure, but we have been told that the water boil requirement will be rescinded," she said during the meeting.
City officials did not identify the contaminant that prompted the advisory or provide a timeline for when the rescission notice would be posted publicly beyond the statement that results were available by meeting time. The commission asked the communications office to share the rescission widely so residents would be aware they could resume normal water use.
The commission also used the announcement to remind residents of holiday safety measures, including checking smoke detectors and avoiding impaired driving, and to promote upcoming community events.
