The Lafayette Board of Works approved a slate of motions on its final meeting of the year, including contractor awards for emergency utility repairs, an agreement to provide up to $80,000 to Habitat for Humanity for a new home at 1319 North 18th Street, a parks testing contract and claims totaling $9,913,887.30. Most items were approved by voice vote with no recorded opposition.
Chair called for and received unanimous voice approval to accept last week’s minutes and to take bids for the Lafayette Steel Site Road intersection improvements under advisement. The board read three bids for the intersection project: HIS Constructors (Fairland, Indiana) $3,052,829; Milestone $3,296,973; and Rhys Riley $2,636,814.78. The board did not award the project at the meeting and took the submitted bids under advisement.
City Engineer Jeremy Grenard recommended notices of award for the 2026 utility emergency repairs program to Atlas Excavating, Milestone Contractors and F and K Construction; the board moved, seconded and approved the recommendation.
Cara Boyles of the legal department presented an agreement authorizing up to $80,000 to support construction of an energy-efficient home at 1319 North 18th Street; the board approved the agreement. Jenna Carl of the controller’s office presented claims totaling $9,913,887.30 and the board approved those claims by voice vote.
Other approvals included a one-year, $24,000 renewal of a rent subsidy for the Precious Paws low-cost spay and neuter clinic; a testing and inspection services contract with Alton Witsag/Alton Woodside Engineering for the Clumene Park zoo primate complex, estimated at $41,228; an updated towing-services contract with Jim's Garage revised to meet recent legislative requirements; and a taxicab permit for Carl Snyder of 8815 North 12th Street. All motions were moved, seconded and carried by voice vote unless otherwise noted.
The board adjourned after offering holiday greetings and will reconvene at the start of the new year.
