The board said it is "our responsibility to ensure that every student in the Newberg Dundee School District is safe, supported, and able to learn without fear." The statement affirmed that "Our schools remain safe, welcoming places for every child" and thanked principals, counselors and staff for monitoring school activity and maintaining routines. Board members also reminded the public that student privacy and safety are protected under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and by Oregon law, and that student records and personally identifiable information cannot be released without a valid judicial order.
The board encouraged families who need support to contact their school principal and noted community partners, including Unidos, are available to assist with concerns about safe travel to and from school. The statement closed with a pledge to continue supporting students and families across the Newberg and Dundee communities.
