Cass County approves new internet provider for Justice Center; staff says monthly cost will be about half of current rate

Cass County commissioners voted to approve Resolution 25-125, authorizing an agreement with Kate Hired Net LLC to provide internet services for the Justice Center and connected county offices.
IT staff member Mark explained the change is driven by Lumen's rate increase to roughly $1,200 per month. He said the new vendor's proposed rate is about $600 per month and would provide approximately a gig of capacity both ways, an increase from the existing 500-megabit service. Staff described plans to connect additional offices, including the prosecuting attorney's office and the circuit clerk, and said the new connection will be the primary link for those facilities.
Commissioners asked whether broader fiber deployments around town might yield better deals in the future; staff said routing and cost (including a decision to avoid running under a highway due to expense) made the proposed agreement the best option for the Justice Center at this time. After discussion, the commission approved the resolution by a 3-0 voice vote.
