Commissioners finalize 2026 portfolio and external-board assignments

After discussion, the board assigned commissioners to portfolios and external boards (JDA, water board, health board, soil conservation, housing authority, etc.) and asked staff to circulate the assignments for confirmation; formal approval will be finalized at the next meeting.
Commissioners reviewed and assigned internal portfolios and external-board seats for the coming year. Staff circulated a draft list that grouped responsibilities for the auditor/treasurer, highway, water board, emergency management, JDA and other boards. Several commissioners volunteered for or traded responsibilities to balance workloads and geographic representation across the county.
The commission agreed to circulate the assignments by email for final confirmation, to allow external boards to be notified in advance of January meetings. Commissioners also discussed the frequency and intensity of some boards’ workloads and said assignments could be adjusted if they proved unwieldy.
Next steps: Staff will format and circulate the assignment list to commissioners; the commission will formally adopt assignments at the following meeting and notify the external boards of any changes.
