Community Development staff delivered the monthly planning and building update covering October activity.
Director John Eisler said the department logged 24 pending applications for October versus 38 in the prior-year month, but remains up year-to-date. Staff highlighted several major items: an Indian Canyon application with a final hearing scheduled, a Verizon tower case in Bellevue with a staff report due, and ongoing code updates that remove outdated references and modernize county code. Eisler also noted that the Madras Highway apartment complex is starting to rise from the ground and staff addressed sound-transmission and fire-blocking issues with the developer.
"So, sometimes it's not just the quantity of applications we have to deal with," Eisler said. "We finally got the Indian Canyon application on October, so that's gonna be a very big one to process." Building-permit counts and commercial activity are showing mixed signals; staff reported 204 permits issued in October and a steady pace of monthly field inspections.
Staff also flagged that the county needs an extension on a transportation safety action plan grant due to federal representative availability following the government shutdown; they will pursue an extension before expending further resources.
