The Tupelo City Council on Dec. 16 approved a package of development‑code amendments covering garage requirements for new single‑family dwellings, sign regulations (both non‑billboard and billboard provisions) and a subdivision text amendment.
Council members moved several study‑agenda items up for consideration and then took each item off the table for vote. The presiding officer announced public hearings were scheduled for the amendments and asked whether anyone wished to speak; no public commenters stepped forward.
The garage requirement amendment applies to new single‑family dwellings on lots with 50 feet of street frontage or greater, and the council moved to approve the change after taking the item off the table. The council similarly took up and approved changes to Chapter 10 covering general sign provisions and separate provisions for billboards. A separate text amendment to Chapter 12 (subdivisions) was also placed on the agenda as part of the study items and advanced by motion.
Council members gave little debate on these items at the meeting; each measure was moved, seconded and approved in routine fashion. The council indicated these items would proceed without further immediate public comment recorded at this meeting.
The council then returned to the routine agenda and other business, including procurement awards and personnel policy changes. The meeting later moved into an executive session to discuss a pending real property purchase, with a vote on that matter to follow the closed session.
