County board approves 2026 forest and trails work plan, authorizes $61,933 DNR grant application

The Chippewa County Board on Dec. 16 approved Resolution 38-25 to adopt the 2026 work plan for the Department of Land Conservation and Forest Management's forest and trails division and to authorize the county forest administrator to apply for a County Forest Administration grant from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.
The resolution, forwarded by the Land Conservation and Forest Management Committee, included authorization under "28.11 Wisconsin statutes" for the administrator to complete required application materials and listed an estimated grant amount of approximately $61,933. Planner testimony described routine annual activities including cutting roughly 800 acres per year and managing about 35,000 county forest acres. The presenter noted a DNR grant to improve the Hickory Ridge Trailhead to add a maintenance shed and warming shelter and referenced recently updated recreation planning that enabled the grant application.
A motion to approve the resolution was made, seconded, and the board approved the measure unanimously.
The authorized grant application will be prepared and submitted by the county forest administrator as described in the resolution.
