Cascade Charter Township introduces resolution to auto-adopt International Fire Code to align with state building code

The Cascade Charter Township Board introduced a resolution on Dec. 11 to amend township ordinance chapter 155, article 2, so the townshipad's fire code automatically updates to match the version of the International Fire Code adopted by the state.
Fire Marshal Powell told the board that the current process requires separate board approval each time the International Fire Code is revised, which has created delays and inconsistencies between the building and fire codes. "This change ensures consistency between departments, eliminates administrative delays, and improves public safety by keeping both codes aligned at all times," Powell said.
A trustee asked whether the building code already updated automatically with the state's adoption; Powell confirmed the building department follows the state's adoption but the fire department must currently seek separate board approval. Trustee Shipley moved to introduce the amendment and Clerk Slater supported the motion. Clerk Slater called the roll and the recorded votes were all in favor; the motion to introduce the resolution carried.
The resolution as introduced will move through the township's formal adoption steps before a final ordinance change becomes effective.
