The board met in executive session under ORS 192.660(2)(d) to discuss labor negotiations with designated representatives. On returning to open session commissioners moved to adopt a temporary exception to county policy to continue paying overtime wages to sergeants under prior practice, maintain that practice until either the sergeants’ collective bargaining agreement is ratified or the county provides notice and opportunity to bargain over proposed changes, and authorize the county administrator and relevant departments to implement the motion.
Commissioners said the exception is intended to maintain the legal status quo of working conditions and pay during ongoing bargaining discussions. The motion passed on a recorded voice vote.
What’s next: County administration will implement the exception and report back to the board as needed during bargaining and ratification.
