Gates County commissioners approve school‑board audit request and two grant budget amendments

During the same special meeting on June 25, the Gates County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved two separate administrative actions: a draft letter requesting the state auditor review the Board of Education's finances, and two budget amendments to accept and appropriate small grant awards.
County Manager Scott Sauer told the board there were two budget amendments for consideration. The first (Fund F26023) totals $36,500 to cover a cyber security grant provided through emergency management: the grant amount is $25,550 with a required local match of $10,950. The second (Fund F26024) is an appropriation of $8,104 in fund balance, including a digital literacy telehealth grant for $6,002.50 and a United Way grant for $1,008.54.
Chair Nathan Berryman asked for a motion to approve the draft audit letter to the state auditor, which Manager Sauer had emailed to the board the prior week. The board moved and seconded approval and agreed the seven‑page draft would be posted online for public review.
Commissioners then moved, seconded and voted unanimously to approve both budget amendments. Commissioner Dave Foresight asked for the department executing the literacy grant to be identified; Manager Sauer said he believed Cooperative Extension would manage the program.
All three administrative actions were passed by unanimous votes and will be posted online per commissioners' direction. Manager Sauer concluded his report after the two amendments were approved.
