Niskayuna Board spotlights National Merit semifinalists and fall athletic champions

Superintendent Carl Lemathe and Principal Anthony Valencia opened the Dec. 16 Board of Education meeting by recognizing two National Merit semifinalists and numerous fall athletic accomplishments.
Principal Anthony Valencia said the semifinalist honors were based on the 2024 PSAT and noted the district’s history of National Merit recognition. He introduced Hannah Cistaro and Daniel Yang and summarized each student’s academic interests, extracurricular leadership and volunteer work.
Lemathe then invited the board to present awards to successful fall teams, including the 2025 Varsity Girls Soccer Team (coach Bryce Colby), the varsity football program (section champions) and individual winners in tennis and swimming. He announced that Faith Goodspeed was crowned New York State champion in the 100‑meter breaststroke.
The board thanked coaches, families and the district’s Department of Athletics for the students’ academic and athletic achievements. Certificates for individual athletes were handed to coaches to distribute.
