Staff explained township officials had complained that some temporary-use permits were being reissued repeatedly with no clear end point. The proposed change would set a maximum of 179 consecutive days per two consecutive calendar years for temporary uses not enumerated in the ordinance and would allow applicants who need longer or repeated durations to seek a "special temporary use" review by the Land Use and Development Committee, which could impose conditions or deny the request.
The amendment would preserve short-duration event exceptions (for example, limited seasonal attractions) while creating a review channel for atypical requests such as multi-month commercial operations in nonconforming locations. No written comments were filed and no public speakers opposed the change at the hearing. The commission voted to recommend the amendment; staff said the item will go to the Land Use & Development Committee on Thursday and then to the County Board for final adoption in December.
