Hunt County Extension Office reports program growth, new agent outlines expanded 2026 plans

HUNT COUNTY — The Hunt County Extension Office presented a quarterly update to the Commissioners Court, highlighting program growth, new staff and expanded partnerships.
Ian, Hunt County’s new ag and natural resource agent, said he joined in June and in six months has taken part in training and community programs, noting the office handled about 150 contacts per month and recorded 25 fall entries and 30 spring entries in major livestock shows. "We're excited to be here this morning and discuss with y'all the wonderful things that AgriLife has been doing over these past 6 months," Ian said.
Mary, who represented the extension office’s long-standing programming, told the court the office ran fee-based summer homestead workshops — including cheese making, water-bath canning and a beef-tallow demonstration — and partnered with specialists and neighboring counties for pond management and feral-hog programs. She said a county partnership expanded a home‑education program from six participants at the extension office to 369 through an LP Waters partnership, and that 4‑H administration in Hunt County now lists 138 club members and 34 adult volunteers.
The presentation also noted community outreach: a community gardening series with Lone Oak and Tawakoni libraries, a Hunt County ambassador who received a $1,000 grant from Walmart to coordinate holiday meal distribution for up to 25 families, and plans to host a rotating small landowner conference in spring 2026 in partnership with Collin College and neighboring counties.
Commissioners thanked the extension staff and welcomed Ian to the office. No formal action was requested or taken; the update was presented for the record and as information to guide future county partnership decisions.
