Residents press council over immigration enforcement and council decorum after tense prior meeting

James Coker said he found Rosati's prior comments defending ICE “abhorrent and repugnant,” warned that ICE practices put students and families at risk, and asked what the councilmember would do to ensure safety. Jim Lane and others urged consistent enforcement of decorum rules after an incident at a prior meeting.
Councilmember Rosati responded in open session, saying his prior remarks were an attempt to lower rhetoric and that he “never said ICE was doing a good job.” He said, “Calling people Nazis, for me, is a bridge too far,” and described his comments as motivated by personal history and concern for residents.
Councilmembers thanked commenters for raising concerns and several pledged to continue supporting immigrant families; Councilmember Perez said she stands with the community, and other councilmembers encouraged direct follow-up with staff where appropriate.
