Planning Commission recommends adoption of water use and preservation element for the general plan

Lehi’s Planning Commission reviewed and recommended approval of the Water Use and Preservation element of the general plan on Dec. 4, 2025. Staff and consultant materials (prepared by Hansen, Allen & Luce per staff) summarized historical consumption patterns, noted a 2020 spike in irrigation use, and recommended policy and code changes to reduce long‑term demand. Proposed actions include stronger water‑wise landscaping requirements, turf limits, stormwater integration, tiered water pricing, public education and leak detection/repair programs. Commissioners discussed data questions and the need for improved meter data; staff said new meters will provide more granular usage data.
The commission found the draft element complied with state requirements for the new statutory water element and voted to forward a positive recommendation to council, asking that DRC comments be included in transmittal.
