Milwaukee Public Schools staff presented the district’s least‑restrictive‑environment (LRE) metrics for 2025 and provided multi‑year context for the committee.
Travis Pinter, Senior Director of Specialized Services, said the December report covers most of calendar year 2025 (January–November) and described three LRE indicators (5A, 5B, 5C). He told the committee the district continues to be within targets for indicators 5A and 5C and is making steady progress lowering 5B. "I’m pleased to report that we continue to be within our target for indicators 5A and C, with steady progress in lowering B," Pinter said.
The presenters also provided longitudinal figures: over the last four years the district reported nearly 800 more students in category 5A, about 600 fewer students in 5B, and roughly 20 fewer in 5C. They cautioned that, because of district size and incremental changes, small percentage shifts can be difficult to interpret and emphasized ongoing training, supervision and monitoring to support inclusive practices.
No formal action was taken; staff said they will continue monitoring progress and that additional audits and deeper reviews are planned as part of compliance work.
