District reports $17,050 payment from Evergy demand-response program

District staff updated the board on the districts participation in Evergys business response program, reporting an incentive payment of $17,050 this year.
An Evergy presenter said the district participated in five curtailments and that improved building control systems allowed the district to better regulate temperatures and reduce power consumption in less-used areas. “We had intended that we reached, with a paycheck from Evergy for the amount of $17,050,” the presenter said.
The presenter said the program is designed for commercial customers in peak-demand areas and that, across the curtailments, only one event occurred during school hours. The district has participated in the program for three years; payments have increased each year from just over $4,000 in the first year to a little over $7,000 in the second before this years larger payment.
Board members praised the districts upgrades to HVAC and building controls as a tangible benefit of capital investments.
