The Monte Vista City Council on a voice and roll-call vote adopted Resolution 2025-20, certifying the city's 2026 mill levy at 14.74 mills. Speaker 4 read the resolution, which cites the 2025 certified assessed valuation from the Rio Grande County assessor as $40,104,311 and directs the city to levy the tax for the calendar year beginning Jan. 1, 2026.
The certification is required to be filed with Rio Grande County on or before Dec. 15, 2025. Speaker 4 read aloud the key provisions of the resolution, including the levy rate and the statutory basis noted in the resolution (adoption of the annual budget in accordance with the local government budget law and the city charter).
Council discussion was brief. The motion to adopt the resolution was moved, seconded and approved by roll call with votes recorded as affirmative from the members present. The council instructed staff to proceed with submitting the certification to the county assessor as required by law.
The action sets the property-tax levy used to fund general corporate purposes for the City of Monte Vista for calendar year 2026. The county certification and the mill levy number are the primary inputs for property-tax notices residents will receive in 2026.
