The committee discussed several process changes to streamline reappointments for Boards and Advisory Commissions (BACs). Staff described a three-member panel (mayor plus two appointees) that would handle recommendations for reappointment so that the full commission need not act for routine cases. Commissioners raised timing concerns around staggered term expirations and vacancies; staff said vacancies would revert to the full commission when necessary.
Members also discussed improving outreach and reducing staff burden by moving parts of the application and selection process to an electronic portal so commissioners could view and tally applicants more easily. Commissioners flagged recruitment challenges and suggested targeted outreach to underrepresented populations. The committee asked staff to finalize manual edits and post the updated policy documents to the county website.
