Planning commission adopts 2025 housekeeping ordinance, 7-0
Summary

Newcastle — The Newcastle Planning Commission unanimously adopted the city's annual housekeeping ordinance at its Dec. 17 meeting.
Associate Planner Coil told the commission the housekeeping package addresses four broad areas: (1) Department of Commerce comments carried over from the comp plan, (2) amendments to align city design guidelines with a state clear-and-objective law (RCW 36.78 0.630), (3) general code cleanup and obsolete-reference updates, and (4) removal of provisions that a new state law makes unlawful (for example, restrictions on certain cladding materials). "Minor updates to city code, fixing logical inconsistencies," Coil said when describing the package.
A commissioner moved that the commission "adopt the changes as proposed and read"; a second was recorded and the commission approved the motion by voice vote, 7-0. Chair Gadsick noted there were no members of the public present for the scheduled public hearing and that the chair had misread the agenda order earlier in the meeting.
The ordinance is procedural in nature, staff said, and will be forwarded to city council per the standard process.
