Tipton mayor seeks grants and regional utility coordination for Jefferson Street reconstruction

Mayor (unnamed) told the council the city has submitted a second LPA grant application — the third application overall — to support improvements on Jefferson Street following a relinquishment and that he is working with StructurePoint to develop a phased funding and spending forecast for full reconstruction.
"This is a continuation of the improvements on Jefferson Street, as a result of the relinquishment," the mayor said, adding he is working with StructurePoint to identify total costs and how to fund phase 1 through phase 3. The goal is to present a financial outlook that clarifies what each phase will entail and when spending will occur.
The mayor also said he joined Tipton’s first meeting as a member of the Central Indiana Regional Development Authority, which included local mayors and representatives from utilities such as AES, Duke Energy, IMPA and Wabash Valley. The meeting was intended to address utility availability — particularly electric capacity — that affects prospects for economic development.
"As we're seeing a lot of these economic development prospects and needs for electric in particular have grown exponentially," the mayor said. He described the meeting as productive and said participation gives Tipton an opportunity to raise local CenterPoint concerns directly with the company and other regional utility partners.
Council members did not take action at the meeting on the Jefferson Street project; the comments described ongoing planning and grant pursuit. The mayor said next steps include assembling a funding strategy with StructurePoint and returning to council with financial projections and phase definitions.
