Nevada County CCP approves data-literacy training plan, lines up interim analyst support

Jeff Goldman, chief probation officer, told the CCP on Jan. 8 that Chico State’s data‑science department proposed a half‑day data‑literacy workshop for local staff. The course would run about 4½ hours, accommodate up to 30 participants and cost $3,170; proposed dates fall during Chico’s spring break, March 16–20.
Members expressed support for locking the dates and beginning contracting. Goldman said the training is aimed at creating common data vocabulary, improving interpretation of dashboards and case‑management data, and teaching staff how to ask and answer programmatic questions using local data.
Goldman also reported the CCP analyst (Brendon) has left for a private‑sector job. He said staff are preparing a short‑term contract with Mike Wilson, a Nevada County resident and consultant who has built county dashboards elsewhere, to provide interim support and help onboard the next permanent analyst.
No formal vote was recorded to approve contracting at the meeting; members requested staff prepare contracting documents and schedule the Chico training while coordinating participant lists and department nominations for attendance.
