Harrison planning panel approves downtown wellness retail permit

The City of Harrison Planning Commission on Dec. 9 voted to approve a permit for a retail establishment specializing in wellness products in the downtown redevelopment district.
Planning Department staff told the commission that the space is zoned for the proposed use under Section 11-43 of the City of Harrison zoning regulations and that on-street parking is available in front of the building. Staff said no signage had been submitted with the application and recommended approval with conditions, including that all waste be disposed using residential-style curbside containers, that any future dumpster be reviewed and approved by the Building and Zoning Department, and that any interior or exterior improvements, landscaping, lighting or business signs require a building and/or zoning permit for review and approval.
"The reason for this request is the applicant would like to open a retail establishment specializing in wellness products in the downtown redevelopment district," an unidentified staff member said during the presentation.
The commission moved to approve the application; recorded votes noted Grama, Mayor Grubbs, McMurdo and Wilson voting "Yay." The motion carried and staff may now issue building and zoning permits consistent with the stated conditions.
The decision does not approve any specific signage or later interior build-outs; those will require separate permit filings and reviews by the Building and Zoning Department.
