The Codington County Board of Commissioners approved an initial set of updates to the county personnel and procedures manual and authorized posting and hiring for an updated Facilities Technician II position.
Human resources staff walked commissioners through a long list of changes including style standardization (Times New Roman font, gender-neutral pronouns), relocation of commissioner directives into relevant manual sections, updates to equal employment opportunity language, revisions to the workplace violence and storm policy sections to align with state law and pay practices, and adjustments to time-sheet and compensatory-time provisions. The HR presenter emphasized that this is the first tranche of revisions and that more updates will follow.
HR also proposed a revised Facilities Technician II job description, increasing the minimum experience to five years and adding basic carpentry/construction skills to essential duties. Commissioners approved the revised job description and directed HR to post the vacancy and proceed with hiring; HR described the advertising channels (internal email, Indeed, job service site) and the interview process.
The board approved the personnel manual updates and the job posting by voice vote; no members opposed. Staff said they will return with remaining manual sections for future review.
Next steps: HR will post the Facilities Technician II vacancy and begin candidate screening; the personnel manual will be further updated in subsequent meetings.
