Oceanside City Council on Nov. 5 approved a number of consent-calendar items that included procurement, fleet purchases and staffing changes.
Key approvals included: - A staff-recommended change order increasing an existing purchase order with Vulcan Materials for asphalt by $230,000 to a revised total of $330,000; a resident urged the city to prioritize pothole repairs in his neighborhood. - Authorization of purchase orders for Parks & Recreation and building-division vehicles, including a $122,337 purchase order for a Parks & Rec vehicle and associated upfitting costs (staff listed additional upfit amounts of approximately $4,778 and $7,472 and a $10,000 contingency). Preserve Calavera praised the purchases as hybrid vehicles that reduce fossil-fuel use. - Creation of 30 provisional fuels crew hourly positions under the Measure X hand-crew program and a reclassification of $300,000 in program appropriation; Fire Chief David Parsons described the crews’ focus on vegetation and fuel reduction inside Oceanside and potential intergovernmental work to sustain the program.
All consent items that reached the floor were approved unanimously (votes recorded 5–0). Council members noted staff will update the three-year paving plan and continue work to align fleet purchases with the city’s green-fleet policy.
