Board presents seven policies for first reading, including special‑education and student health rules

The Westbury Union Free School District Board's policy committee presented a set of seven policies for first reading at the Nov. 19 meeting, signaling proposed updates that will return to the board for formal adoption in December.
Trustee Michelle Wilson, speaking as the policy committee representative, summarized the items under consideration: policy 4321.11 regarding public reporting on district policies, practices, and procedures when significant disproportionality is found; 4321.12 covering time‑out and physical restraint for students; 4321.13 on preschool students with disabilities; 4321.14 focused on special‑education personnel recruitment and training; policies 5420 and 5420‑R governing student health services and related regulations; and 9140.1 addressing staff complaints and grievance procedures.
Wilson said copies of the proposed policies were available in the back of the meeting room and online and that the policies comply with applicable education law provisions. The board indicated these will be a first reading on the Nov. 19 agenda and are scheduled for a vote at the next meeting.
No substantive amendments or votes were taken on the policies at the Nov. 19 session; trustees thanked the policy committee for its work and noted that the committee meets outside of public meetings to review and prepare policy language. The board encouraged the public to review the posted documents and to provide input before the December vote.
