Commission recognizes veterans services, adopts 'Be The 1' suicide-prevention resolution

SULLIVAN COUNTY, Tenn. — County commissioners recognized newly hired veteran service officers and adopted a resolution supporting the American Legion's 'Be The 1' suicide-prevention outreach.
Commissioner Travis Ward introduced three veteran service officers — Hunter Woodall, Mac Reynolds and Sonya Arnold — and asked them to describe recent performance metrics. Hunter Woodall said the office is tracking substantial veterans benefits flowing into Sullivan County and presented preliminary figures for the reporting period. "This shows total veteran impact here in Sullivan County, dollars 715,534,191," Woodall said, while noting the numbers were still being reconciled with state and federal reporting systems.
Later in the meeting, Commissioner Vanover read a resolution to recognize the American Legion's Be The 1 program and urge promotion of the 988 crisis hotline; veteran Todd McKinley addressed the commission in support. The commission voted to adopt the resolution under waiver of rules.
Commissioners and staff said the presentation and resolution aim to improve outreach and coordination for veterans’ benefits and suicide-prevention training across county entities and partner organizations.
