The Mitchell County Board of Supervisors voted Dec. 9 to amend the county's 28E intergovernmental agreement with the Mitchell County Economic Development Commission (MCEDC) to remove members not paying required dues.
Speaker 9 told the board the MCEDC board had recommended removal of entities that declined to pay dues and that the commission had already approved the amendment. "Participation in that agreement does require paying dues," the speaker said, and noted that the local entities would still be welcome to attend meetings but would not retain voting power if not paying dues.
Board members discussed logistics and signatures; Speaker 9 said he already had enough signatures for the city removal and expected to collect the remaining signatures for the EDC amendment. The motion to approve the amendment passed on a roll call; staff will gather signatures and finalize the amendment form for execution.
No member objected to removing the entities for nonpayment; board members expressed regret about the departures but supported following the agreement's dues requirement.
Board staff will ensure the amendment is signed and returned to MCEDC records once the necessary signatures are collected.
