Morgan County seeks multiple quotes after Tech Center heating failures; court clears splash-pad contract contingent on review

Dec 19, 2025

Repeated HVAC failures at the Tech Center pushed repair spending beyond the annual maintenance budget. The court directed staff to obtain three quotes for comprehensive repairs or replacement. Separately the court approved a contract with Summit Engineering for splash-pad design contingent on Miles' review and approved payment for a new Kenworth tandem truck.

The full story

County officials told the fiscal court the Tech Center has experienced repeated HVAC failures that have driven repair spending beyond the year's maintenance allocation. Treasurer (S4) said the county budgeted $25,000 for Tech Center repairs and had already spent approximately $29,000-plus this fiscal year; a maintenance agreement and additional immediate work mean the line item is effectively exhausted. One vendor (HMC) provided a quote to furnish and install a new boiler for $46,002.06 (excluding certain concrete, structural and unforeseen-work costs). Magistrates instructed staff to solicit three competitive quotes and to compare alternatives before approving further work, citing the need to retain Gateway Community Action (a tenant) and avoid possible relocation costs.
