FAA-driven five-year plan: generator, helipad, taxiway work and developer-backed hangars targeted

Airport manager Lenny Sansone presented the commission with a FAA-driven five-year capital improvement plan Dec. 10 and highlighted projects staff intends to prioritize so the airport does not lose available federal funding.
Sansone said the airport will reapply for an emergency generator to power runway lighting, a project FAA will not fund at a level that would power the FBO or fuel farm. He also described plans to widen a short access road (referred to informally as the "goat path") and to expand and light a helipad area near the quadrant building for medevac and other emergency operations.
A major target project identified for 2026–2027 is extending Taxiway Bravo and preparing a ramp area for an outside developer proposing five 7,200-square-foot hangars. Sansone said the county would do site and ramp preparation while the developer would construct the buildings. "I put this in the capital improvement plan, and that will be kind of our big target project on '20 in 2027," Sansone said.
Sansone said he's had preliminary interest from an aircraft manufacturer, a flight school and other potential occupants and that the buildings could be occupied quickly after construction.
What happens next: Airport staff will present the plan in more detail at an upcoming county-council workshop; FAA funding cycles will guide which projects receive grants and in which years.
