The Whitley County Plan Commission voted in November 2025 to recommend approval of two two‑lot subdivisions that would create additional residential building sites in the county.
Staff described the first proposal, to be called Meyer Subdivision, as a two‑lot division of an existing parcel at 3190 South 300 West that would dedicate right‑of‑way and create a new building site while leaving an existing home in place. Staff noted prior parcel splits dating to 1979 and 2018, said current zoning minimums are met and no rezoning is required, and identified topography and two legal drains on the property. The county engineer flagged potential limitations on driveway placement along the county road that will be resolved through driveway/road cut permitting rather than by condition on this plat. The petitioner, Rick Myers of 3190 South 300 West, said he had nothing further to add beyond the staff report, summarizing the request as simply "splitting off another another lot. That's about it." The commission closed the public hearing with no public comment and recorded affirmative votes from commissioners, approving a favorable recommendation; staff retains delegated authority for secondary plat approval.
The commission then considered Wagner Subdivision Section 2, a replat at 8082 South 700 East in Jefferson Township to split an existing Lot 2 into two residential building sites. Staff said the parcel is now zoned Rural Residential after an earlier rezoning this year, that sanitary sewer is nearby but not available for the lots, and that health department soil testing for septic suitability was pending at the time of the staff report. Kayla Leigent, representing the petitioners, said the subdivision would allow the petitioners' daughter to build adjacent to her parents to provide care as they age, noting the petitioners' mother uses a wheelchair. With no public comment, the commission approved a favorable recommendation with staff conditions; a roll‑call recorded affirmative votes.
Both approvals included standard conditions and delegation of secondary plat approval to staff where indicated. Staff flagged that additional platting in the future could trigger rezoning requirements if more lots are created than currently proposed. The commission did not receive substantive public opposition to either petition and moved both items forward as recommended.
