Board accepts two retirements, approves hires and FMLA request

The Ambridge Area School District board accepted the retirement of Economy Elementary School principal Aphrodite Galitzis, effective Dec. 31, 2025, and the resignation/retirement of Kathy Hopkins from the accounts manager/student registration secretary role, effective Jan. 2, 2026. Trustees expressed appreciation for Galitzis’s service and noted plans to advertise the principal vacancy and consider interim coverage.
The board approved employment of ABC Transit Incorporated drivers and aides for the 2025–26 school year (pending required clearances), and approved an employee FMLA leave (employee #3146) beginning Dec. 3, 2025, for up to 60 days under board policy 335. All items were approved on roll call.
Board members asked administration to notify parents promptly about interim contacts and to post the principal vacancy in the paper and on district channels.
