Staff recalled that Koschick has served as emergency management coordinator since 2015 and described responsibilities including updating the county hazard mitigation plan, conducting active-shooter and other emergency-response training, and coordinating with local schools. The county historically received Emergency Management Performance Grant funding that offset a portion of the coordinator’s cost; staff said that grant support has declined from about $16,000 in 2023 to roughly $13,000 in recent years, covering closer to 40–42% of the cost rather than about half.
Commissioners commended Koschick’s work during past events, including flood response, and approved the contract renewal by motion. Staff said the county will continue to seek grant support while budgeting for the county share of emergency management costs.
