Bullhead City Council voted to authorize a one-time city contribution of approximately $25,000 to the Bullhead Regional Food Bank to help meet elevated demand linked to a recent federal government shutdown and persistent economic pressures.
City manager described the request as a short-term measure to support income-qualified residents during the holiday season; council heard directly from food bank leaders Terry Tomlinson (Legacy Foundation) and Steven Brown, who supplied usage statistics. Brown told council the food bank served 34,103 families over the prior year — equating to 77,466 individuals — and said that during the recent crisis the food bank served 7,121 families in a single month (about 17,231 individuals). He said over half of clients are seniors (53%) and that the food bank performs more than 100 home deliveries for shut-ins.
Several council members and public commenters — including a vice mayor who visited the site — described the food bank’s operations as efficient and well-run. One public commenter urged council to consider additional funding to address on-site conditions (shelter from rain for clients); Tomlinson said they are close to resolving that issue.
A motion to approve the allocation passed by voice vote (7 in favor). Staff and the food bank said the contribution is intended as finite assistance to help through the holiday season.
