MPO approves TIP amendment adding $100,000 transit operating aid and a Regent Road railroad safety project
Summary
The MPO approved amendments to the FY2024–2028 TIP to add Charlotte County Transit FTA §5310 operating assistance ($100,000 requiring a 50% local match) and a railroad safety project at Regent Road to install signal house equipment and gates/flashers; the measure passed 5–0 by roll call.
The Charlotte County Punta Gorda MPO voted unanimously March 31 to amend the FY2024–2028 Transportation Improvement Program. The two additions staff presented were:
- Charlotte County Transit: FTA §5310 operating assistance request for $100,000; the item requires a 50% local match. Staff said the operating assistance supports transit operations and is being added now for consistency in the TIP.
- Regent Road railroad safety project: installation of a new signal house and junction boxes to operate flashing lights and gates at the Regent Road crossing. FDOT/MPO staff characterized this as a safety improvement requiring STIP/TRP amendments.
MPO staff opened a public hearing on the TIP amendment; no public speakers addressed the item. Board member motioned to approve the amendments by roll call and the clerk recorded a 5–0 vote in favor.
Staff said the changes were being submitted for consistency with the statewide program and would be reflected in the upcoming draft TIP and work program snapshots. The board instructed staff to notify members if further DOT adjustments are required as the district refines its work program later in April.
