Quasimondo seeks WEDC Vibrant Spaces grant for North Milwaukee Art Park

The Department of City Development and Quasimondo Physical Theater presented a request to apply to the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC) Vibrant Spaces grant for a proposed North Milwaukee Art Park.
Brian Roth, Quasimondo’s executive director, described a vacant lot adjacent to the theater at 5151 N. 35th St. and said the group has hosted the "Villard Vibes" summer concert series and other community events. Roth said the total project budget is $120,000 to create a small community gathering space with parking, landscaping, green infrastructure and a small stage for concerts and public art. City staff explained the WEDC Vibrant Spaces program allows a municipality to apply on behalf of a separate entity; an applicant may request up to $50,000 and WEDC requires a 1:1 match. Staff said the statewide Vibrant Spaces pool was about $1.5 million and is awarded on a first-come, first-served basis.
Committee members encouraged coordination with the city’s arts board and requested staff circulate application details and eligibility guidance to other BID districts. The chair moved adoption and, after no objections, the committee ordered the file.
