Nye County approves CDBG application to connect two wells at fairgrounds

The Nye County Board of County Commissioners voted Nov. 18 to approve submission of a fiscal‑year 2026 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) application to fund Phase 3 of the fairgrounds utilities upgrade.

Stephanie Erga, the CDBG project lead, told commissioners the grant would pay to "install an 8 inch water line between the 2 wells to allow access for water service connections throughout the fair grounds." She asked only for direction to submit the application. After brief public comment urging investment in parks and recreation, a commissioner moved to prioritize and submit the fairgrounds project application; the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote (recorded as 5‑0).

Why it matters: Connecting the wells is intended to provide reliable irrigation for grass and playing surfaces so the county can support outdoor recreational uses such as pickleball and ball fields. Commissioners framed the project as preparing the fairgrounds for community use while leveraging CDBG funds to address infrastructure gaps.

Next steps: Staff will submit the application to CDBG and, if invited to apply, return with project specifics and grant conditions.
