The Public Safety and Neighborhood Services Committee voted Dec. 11 to direct the clerk to prepare a resolution finding that issuing a Type 48 on‑sale general public premises license to Big Sky LLC, doing business as Club895 at 895 O'Farrell Street, would serve the public convenience or necessity and to forward a positive recommendation to the full Board.
Officer Brandon Erickson of the San Francisco Police Department's Alcohol Liaison unit presented the committee with a PCN report noting "0 letters of protest, 0 letters of support" and identifying the site in Plot 547 and Census Tract 122.02, which the report described as a high‑crime, high‑concentration area. Erickson said the Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) liaison unit and Administrative Licensing Unit (ALU) recommended approval "with the following conditions," including noise limits, compliance with any Entertainment Commission permit, two licensed uniform security guards when providing live entertainment, active anti‑loitering monitoring and litter control.
David Villalba of CLA Consulting, representing the applicant, said the sponsor has invested in the property and intends roughly $6 million in renovations after a near $9 million acquisition, characterizing the project as a transformation of a longtime community eyesore into a multi‑entertainment venue.
No members of the public signed up to speak on the item. After the presentation and brief discussion, Chair Supervisor Matt Dorsey moved to direct the clerk to prepare the resolution; a roll call vote recorded Member Wong, Vice Chair Bridal Mahmood and Chair Dorsey in favor and the motion passed.
The committee's action forwards the recommended resolution to the full Board for final consideration; the committee's report noted the ALU conditions that would be attached if the Board adopts the recommendation.
