Madera County board elects Bobby McCauley chair, Jordan Wamhoff vice chair; McCauley outlines budget priorities

The Madera County Board of Supervisors unanimously elected Bobby McCauley chair and Jordan Wamhoff vice chair during a special reorganization meeting in Oakhurst. Supervisor Rogers moved McCauley’s nomination and Supervisor Poitras seconded; the roll-call vote was recorded as 5-0.

After the gavel was passed, Chair Bobby McCauley thanked outgoing leadership and recognized Letty Gonzales before outlining his priorities for 2026. McCauley credited county administration—naming Joel Begay—for tight budget work that he said positions the county to pass a balanced budget in June. He described recent infrastructure achievements including new fire stations, road work and public facilities and said continued fiscal discipline and reserve-building are central goals.

McCauley also framed tourism and growth in the county as managed development, saying development in the valley has paid for infrastructure and expanded capacity. He noted the county’s emphasis on public safety and on using development impact fees and state grants to fund capital projects.

The board’s reorganization proceeded without public comment and the chair invited members of the public to address the board during the standard public-comment period later in the session. The board adjourned the reorganization item and continued with the published agenda.
