TxDOT area office updates Willacy County on FM‑90 curve redesign; traffic counters noted

A resident and a commissioner reported seeing orange traffic cameras/counters at the intersection of FM‑1018 and FM‑507 and on County Road 315 (Marigold Road). Santos said the devices were likely part of the Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) traffic counters used to measure traffic loads, particularly in rural areas, and offered to follow up to confirm specifics.
The court asked about project limits and potential impacts to irrigation infrastructure near a sharp curve; TxDOT staff said enlarging the curve would require cutting into an irrigation canal and that the project would include necessary coordination and permitting. Commissioners thanked TxDOT for the update and requested further notifications as coordination progresses.
