The Veneta Utilities Authority on Jan. 6 approved updates to its community water system emergency response plan and authorized the purchase of a new effluent flow meter for the wastewater treatment plant. The meeting opened at 5:30 p.m. and the authority completed routine business before voting on the two items.
Mister Smith, presenting the emergency plan update, said the changes were primarily administrative: “it was just as easy as changing some names, people that worked here, and new people, and took ones off that had left or retired.” He said the plan had been required and late, and thanked staff (Kim) for completing the update. A motion to approve the updated emergency response plan carried with no opposition.
On a separate item, Mister Smith described Proposal No. 2823 from Haines Equipment for $5,277 to install a new effluent flow meter. He told the board that a DEQ inspection had criticized the current installation and that replacing the meter would address the regulator's findings: “We had a DEQ inspection a while back, and they really didn't like the way it was, and they kinda dinged us on it.” The authority approved using funds from the wastewater treatment plant reserve account and voted to proceed with the purchase.
The authority heard a brief superintendent report and adjourned at 5:36 p.m. The votes on both items were recorded by voice with all members answering "Aye."
