Commission approves Fairview Mine map amendment and rezoning
The commission adopted a large-scale plan amendment and companion rezoning to allow mining on remaining portions of an existing Fairview Mine property. Staff said the site is outside prohibited zones; P&Z recommended approval and the board voted 4-0.

The Charlotte County Commission on April 22 approved a large-scale future-land-use map amendment and accompanying rezoning to allow regulated mineral extraction at a Fairview Mine site east of State Road 31. Planning staff said the property lies outside the county's MRE-prohibited locations, outside primary aquifer recharge and critical wildlife corridors, and that the existing site already contains authorized mining operations on part of the parcel. The Planning & Zoning Board recommended approval on March 10, and the commission voted to adopt the amendment and rezonings 4-0.
