Commission moves 2025 goals into 2026 and reiterates priority for Taxiway Sierra

The Kenai Airport Commission reviewed staff direction to develop a 2026 annual work plan and moved to carry the commission's 2025 goals forward into 2026.
During the work-plan discussion a commissioner said the commission's highest priority should be advancing Taxiway Sierra and requested moving the associated capital improvement project from fiscal year 2029 to fiscal year 2027 to enable the Westside hangar subdivision and related development. The commissioner said that the taxiway and the Westside subdivision are linked: without a paved access route the Westside hangar subdivision cannot proceed.
A motion was made to forward the 2025 goals into 2026 and was seconded; the body proceeded to move the goals forward. Staff and commissioners noted the advisory role of the commission under city code and that the commission's work plan is primarily an advisory document to be shared with council and staff for budgeting and planning purposes.
No budget appropriation or binding action was recorded at the Jan. 8 meeting; commissioners directed staff to proceed with the work-plan process and to provide additional information for any items proposed to be advanced in the capital improvement program.
