Summary
The board approved three public safety items: an anti‑trafficking agreement with Arizona DPS ($100,360), a small ICAC reimbursement ($4,710) and a DPS local border support agreement ($443,905.28) to fund a K‑9 deputy, operating costs and BearCat upgrades; sheriff noted K‑9 'Dex' seized 70,000 fentanyl pills recently.
The Coconino County Board of Supervisors approved several public safety agreements during the meeting, including funding to support anti‑trafficking detectives, Internet Crimes Against Children participation and a local border support package.
Sheriff’s staff described a $100,360 agreement with Arizona Department of Public Safety to reimburse travel, training and specialized technology for two detectives assigned to human‑trafficking work. The board approved that agreement alongside the trafficking proclamation.
Separately, supervisors approved a small reimbursement to the Phoenix Police Department ICAC task force ($4,710) for software and investigation‑specific tools. Sheriff staff said the funding covers tools not otherwise eligible under local nonprofit budgets.
The board also approved a $443,905.28 DPS local border support agreement to fund one full‑time equivalent K‑9 deputy position, K‑9 operating expenses and upgrades to a 2007 BearCat armored vehicle (about $200,000 toward vehicle repairs, medical supplies, windshields and graphics). The sheriff highlighted the county K‑9 'Dex' as an effective investigative tool; "Dex... seized 70,000 fentanyl pills this past weekend," the sheriff said, and noted the K‑9 team received statewide recognition. The sheriff reiterated that many state grants include E‑Verify hiring clauses that county HR already implements.
All items passed unanimously.
